Jakub Ettrich
GRADUATE STUDENT
B.S. in Chemistry, Biochemistry Specialization, Barry University
Jakub is a graduate student on the Chemical Biology & Molecular Biosciences track in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at Caltech. He received his undergraduate degree in Chemistry from Barry University, where he focused on the development of fluorescent peptide probes with Dr. Conrad Fischer. During his undergraduate education, Jakub also participated in the MIT Summer Research Program in Biology (MSRP-Bio), where he investigated the structure-function relationship of a plant peptide NCR247 in the laboratory of Dr. Graham Walker under the guidance of Dr. Siva Sankari. Before coming to Caltech, Jakub went back to his home country of the Czech Republic to carry out an internship at the Department of Chemical Biology at Palacky University in Olomouc, where he worked under Dr. Marek Zatloukal on the development of water-soluble fluorescent plant hormone molecules. In the Chou Lab, Jakub focuses on investigating the p97 adaptor protein PLAA, using structural- and cell biology based tools.
Outside of the lab, Jakub likes to visit national parks and spend time with his wife, cat, and dog.
